The NBA is rolling out major changes to how teams handle injury reports and how betting works around the league. These updates come as professional sports continue to deal with gambling scandals that have put players and coaches under investigation.
The league’s new approach focuses on tighter control over what information teams share about injured players and when they share it. At the same time, the NBA wants to limit certain types of bets that people can place on individual players. These moves follow similar steps taken Major League Baseball and the NFL to protect their sports from betting-related problems.
Rozier Charges
Federal prosecutors claim Rozier intentionally removed himself from a game in March 2023 while playing for the Charlotte Hornets because of an injury. The injury information was allegedly shared with a co-conspirator who sold it to bettors before the game started.
Those bettors then placed over $250,000 in prop bets on Rozier’s performance. Prosecutors state Rozier received direct financial benefits from these bets.
Key allegations include:
- Rozier did not report his injury on the Hornets’ official pregame injury report
- The injury information was not shared with the public or sportsbooks
- Bettors used the private information to gain an unfair advantage
The charges against Rozier include wire fraud and money laundering related to this alleged betting scheme.
Updated Injury Reporting Requirements
The NBA now requires teams to follow stricter guidelines when reporting player injuries. Teams must submit updated injury reports on game days between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. local time. These reports need to be refreshed every 15 minutes to keep information current.
The league is working with betting companies to add new restrictions on player prop bets. These changes include:
- Lower betting limits on individual player propositions
- Restrictions on “under” prop bets that could be influenced insider knowledge
- Maximum wager amounts to reduce the impact of leaked information
The changes aim to prevent players and team staff from sharing confidential injury details with bettors. This type of insider information can give bettors an unfair advantage when placing wagers on specific player performances.
The more frequent reporting windows give you access to the latest injury updates before games begin. This helps level the playing field for all bettors.

MLB Prop Betting Restrictions
Major League Baseball worked with sportsbooks to create new limits on specific types of wagers. The league set a $200 cap on bets related to individual pitches. These pitch-level prop bets can no longer be included in parlay wagers.
The changes came after two Cleveland Guardians pitchers faced federal charges. Officials accused the players of accepting money to influence pitch outcomes and pitch-speed props.
Key restrictions include:
- Maximum $200 bet limit per pitch-level wager
- Removal of pitch props from parlay options
- Applied across all authorized gaming operators
These measures aim to reduce the risk of players manipulating outcomes for small bets that could significantly impact their performance decisions.
